Franklin Mint - 1964 Shelby Cobra Daytona Coupe in Fine Pewter

£199.99
SRP: £699.00 |
| The ‘64 Shelby Daytona is the car that taught the European community that America meant business when it came to motor racing. Based loosely on the British built AC Cobra, it was designed for motor racing; specifically to take on Ferrari in the GT class. Just six Daytona Coupes were built in 1964 and 1965 before Shelby were reassigned to the Ford GT40 project. The famed Daytona Coupe was the car that heralded Carroll Shelby’s entry into European racing in the 1960’s. The stunning curves and aerodynamic design, coupled with a prodigious power plant, blew the competition away. During the 1965 season, the Shelby won eight out of eleven races and went on to be crowned champion of the 24 Hour Le Man. Unfortunately, rule changes at the end of the 1965 season made the Daytona obsolete, creating one of the most desirable racing cars in history. This beautifully detailed replica weighs over 5kgs and is sculpted from the finest pewter. Capturing every intimate detail of the original, it is considered as much work of art as it is a finely crafted model. The Franklin Mint attention to detail is astonishing; from the V8 engine and its individual ancillary hoses, to the handmade leather racing seats. It will be sent to you on a crafted solid-wood base with engraved personalised nameplate and a leatherette folder with detailed history and numbered certificate. With only a limited edition run of 1000 worldwide, this will undoubtedly become a future classic and collectors item. Toy safety, manufacturer’s minimum age – 14 years. |
