Sunstar - Ford Escort RS 1600i in Black

Introduced in September 1981, the Ford Escort RS1600i was in production until 1984. Ford only ever planned to build 5000, but went on to sell over 8500. The car came with a 1597cc fuel injection CVH engine and a 5-speed gear box with a firmer fifth gear to the standard car. The car had a feel and ride all of its own, this was enhanced by the front suspension; it used two longitudinally mounted supporting arms with separate anti-roll bar. These provided the castor angle to be adjusted, which was required for racing purposes. Ford fitted the outside of the car with front and rear spoilers designed specifically for the RS1600i. Optional extras included, electric windows, tinted glass and central locking, all highly sort after in a car of the era. Toy safety, manufacturer’s minimum age – 14 years.
