Sunstar have unveiled four Ford
Focus WRC models based on the 2007 season
The 2007 Focus WRC is a revised version of the last year's Ford
Focus.
The World Rally Car is based on the high-performance Ford Focus
ST road car, launched across Europe in 2006. The 2006 Ford Focus
WRC was designed and built by the British M-Sport motorsport
company.
Although the Focus ST on which the World Rally Car is based uses
a 2.5-liter, WRC rules do not allow an engine in excess of 2
litres, so M-Sport used the 2.0-liter Duratec unit from other
models in the Focus range, M-Sport made further modifications to
the engine with the addition of a turbocharger.
Other modifications to the 2006 Focus WRC included four wheel
driver, improved suspension, a larger steel prop-shaft, a
transverse gearbox and numerous other weight and performance
modifications which leave the Ford Focus WRC significantly
different to the Focus ST on which it was initialled based on.
These modifications by M-Sport helped Ford retain the
manufactures title for the second year running at the end of 2007
WRC championship
